Job Title - Occupational Therapist ( 6 months to 1 year)

Job Duties:

The Occupational Therapist will report to the Head of School/Principal/CEO and will complete but is not limited to the following duties:

• Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing treatment plans, and maintain records (including lesson plans, daily notes, progress reports, and IEPs) for individual sessions, small groups, and integrated classrooms.
• Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team environment, including working with the transitions team. 
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, including knowledge of current research supporting best practice in occupational therapy in the educational setting.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, clinical reasoning, and professional judgment to ensure the safety of students and protect the liability of the school and the therapist. 
• Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure staff understands student occupational performance strengths and needs, through assessment, educational program planning, and service delivery.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
• Provides targeted evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
• Record occupational therapy services to maintain accountability for service delivery and to comply with standards required for appropriate reimbursement.
• Maintains clinical and administrative records following professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
• Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making.
• Support the philosophy and vision of The Newgrange School.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

• Master’s Degree from an educational program accredited by the American Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), including a minimum of 24 weeks of supervised fieldwork experience.  
• Certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
• New Jersey professional license issued by the New Jersey Occupational Therapy Advisory Council.
• Certification as an occupational therapist by the NJ Department of Education State Board of Examiners.
• Knowledge of types of service delivery, including accommodations, modifications to the learning environment, consultation, collaboration, modeling, direct service, in-class services, and pull-out service. 
• Demonstrated understanding of occupational therapy as a related service in the educational setting, according to federal and NJ legislation. 
• Experience with dyslexia and autism is a plus.
• Experience working with middle school students is a plus 
• Experience co-treating with speech is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• NJDOE Fingerprints required.
