OFFICE OF THE CHIEF JUDGE
JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: RECEPTIONIST/SUPPORT STAFF
                        DOMESTIC RELATIONS DIVISION
UNION:         TEAMSTERS LOCAL 700
GRADE:        11
SALARY:      $45,924
LOCATION: RICHARD J. DALEY CENTER, 50 WEST WASHINGTON STREET
                       CHICAGO, ILLINOS

Job Summary and Duties: The Receptionist/Support Staff is employed by the Office of the Chief Judge and reports to the Division Administrator of the Domestic Relations Division. The applicant must possess a high degree of integrity, discretion, maintain professionalism, and be able to assist litigants, hearing officers and judges, to assist the Presiding Judge’s Office of the Domestic Relations Division as needed and perform other duties as required.

Duties and responsibilities of the Receptionist/Support Staff include but are not limited to the following:
  • Maintain Presiding Judge’s reception area and greet and direct individuals entering the suite to the appropriate location;
  • Answer the division telephone and forward calls and messages as required;
  • Provide information to attorneys and self-represented litigants;
  • Supervise maintenance and ordering of office supplies, copy machines, and other office-related maintenance, and place annual book orders for judges, hearing officers, and law clerks;
  • Pick up and deliver mail and internal memos to judges and staff;
  • Coordinate with other departments to set up courtrooms for in person meetings and order food for meetings;
  • Assist Division Administrator and law clerks with Domestic Relations Division programming by maintaining up-to-date records, performing data entry, and scanning documents; and
  • Assist the Division Administrator and the Presiding Judge with projects as directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Domestic Relations experience preferred;
  • Ability to respond and follow through with proper procedures required by the Court;
  • Knowledge of how cases proceed through the system, and forms, documents and procedures associated with same;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Pleasant and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work cooperatively and integrate with legal and non-legal personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen;
  • Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk;
  • Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation;
  • Strength to lift files weighing up to 20 pounds;
  • Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.

This position is 100% in person.
