OD/ID Manual Grinder

 1 Resource Group is seeking an experienced Manual Grinder for our client in Southeast Houston. This position focuses on processing new and damaged cylindrical components to meet exact customer specifications and tolerances. We are specifically looking for a skilled machinist trained on older, fully manual OD (outside diameter) and ID (inside diameter) grinders such as Norton and Church Hill machines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate OD and ID grinding machines with precision.
• Accurately read and use both OD and ID micrometers.
• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Dial in machines with an indicator within a couple thousandths of an inch.
• Handle and machine parts up to 16” OD and 10–20 feet in length.
• Safely operate a 1-ton overhead crane.
• Drive a forklift when required.
• Perform basic liquid penetrant exams when specified by work orders.
• Complete all required documentation and traveler signatures accurately.
• Report any deviations to quality inspectors or supervisors.
• Conduct daily maintenance on machines, including checking lubrication and cleaning.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
• Support training initiatives; trainees may purchase required hand tools through a company repayment program.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience operating manual Norton and/or Church Hill OD/ID grinders.
• Strong knowledge of precision measuring tools and micrometers.
• Ability to read blueprints and follow detailed technical instructions.
• Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and maintaining tight tolerances.

Pay $25-32 DOE

We specifically need a skilled machinist who has been trained on and can operate these older, fully manual OD (outside diameter) and ID (inside diameter) grinders like Norton and Church Hill. The candidate must be able to:

• Accurately read and use both OD and ID micrometers.
• Read blueprints.
• Dial in a machine with an indicator within a couple of thousandths of an inch.
• Handle and machine parts up to16” OD and 10–20 feet in length.
• Able to use an overhead crane 1 ton.
• Drive a forklift if needed.
