Job Description - Office Specialist- Orthopedic Associates Of Meadville - Full Time

Summary of position:  Greet and register patients, update and verify all necessary patient data, including insurance.  Enter information into computer system.  Manage waiting room. 


 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Greet patients and visitors courteously as they enter.

  • Obtain current and accurate demographic patient information.

  • Scan patient’s insurance card(s) into electronic charts.

  • Verify insurances for upcoming appointments.

  • Handle telephone calls from patients and OAM staff.

  • Print out patient forms to be completed.

  • Document failed to show appointments.

  • Enter patient demographics into computer system in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Process patient payments on account.

  • Balance payments at the end of each day.

  • Coordinate intake of disability form requests.

  • Process paperwork for returned DME.

  • Process paperwork for prescription distribution.

  • Coordinate completion of ancillary testing forms.

  • Check out patients.

  • Collect outstanding patient balances and copayments.

  • Schedule patient appointments in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Review fee slips to verify recorded appointments are scheduled in the system.

  • Reschedule patients as needed.

  • Keep waiting room and front desk area neat and free of clutter.

  • Perform insurance eligibility verification for all appointments.


MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED


Must be a high school graduate.


Additional medical training preferred in Medical Terminology.


Possess great attention to detail and be able to accurately type 40wpm and be efficient with data entry equipment.


Must have the ability to apply appropriate rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation, and knowledge of computers is a necessity.


Must possess the ability to prioritize activities, organize work and problem solve.


Communications skills both verbal and written must be above average to excellent, and be able to communicate with public sector by telephone use and in person.


Must be able to deal with anxious and angry people in a calm and professional manner.


Must be able to communication with Administrative Staff, Managers, Attorneys, Physicians and all hospital staff with due respect and tact at all times.


WORKING CONDITIONS


Typically physician office setting.
