$16.83/hour

MUST have a valid driver license - this role will drive fleet vehicles

MUST be comfortable with veterinarian-directed euthanasia

Prefer 1 year Animal Handling

Prefer 1 year of experience administering vaccinations to animals

General

The Offsite Placement Specialist works under the direction of the Foster & Transfer Program Manager in conjunction with the EAC Manager to manage the flow of animals between the Taft Shelter and the Everyday Adoption Center (EAC) in Westminster, CO within Animal Friends Alliance’s programs. Duties include evaluating incoming animals to determine if they are a good fit for offsite adoption at the EAC, completing requests to assist with shelter space, and participating in transportation of eligible animals to their offsite locations, including the EAC in Westminster. The Offsite Placement Specialist is responsible for assisting with transfer intake exams and facilitating intakes of animals into the shelter for adoptions at Animal Friends Alliance’s EAC under the guidance of the Foster and Transfer Program Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shares responsibility of being on-call for foster emergencies with the Foster & Transfer Program Manager, is an active member of the on-call rotation.
  • Receives, examines and vaccinates animals upon intake. Administers medicines, conducts health exams and administers first-aid when necessary.
  • Accurately prepares manifests and offsite adoption paperwork for animals determined to be good candidates for an offsite location.
  • Handles animals and makes determinations regarding their disposition.
  • Cleans kennels, feeds animals and performs related housekeeping duties upon arrival to the EAC and as needed at the Taft campus.
  • Makes decisions with the Foster and Transfer Program Manager in regards to animals needing transport to the Everyday Adoption Center.
  • Communicates professionally with transfer partners alongside the Foster and Transfer Program Manager. Communications may be via Facebook, email or phone.
  • Performs euthanasia under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Ensures foster & transfer office and transport vehicle remain PACFA compliant at all times.
  • Maintains knowledge of incoming and onsite animal populations at Taft, with a focus on which animals will be candidates for the EAC
  • Communicates with the EAC Manager in regards to onsite needs, both animals and supplies.
  • Safely transports animals, and supplies under PACFA guidelines to and from the EAC as necessary using a company vehicle.
  • Attends annual volunteer appreciation events.

Other Duties:

  • Completes appropriate cleaning for disease control in foster & transfer office as well as personal workspace. Keeps foster & transfer office stocked and organized at all times.
  • Attends quarterly department meetings as assigned, including rounds meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct supervisor.
  • Attends quarterly staff meetings with the full Animal Friends Alliance team.

  • Regular and timely presence onsite.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

Education

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: College diploma.

Experience:

  • Required: One year working with dogs & cats as a volunteer or professional.
  • Preferred: Two years working with dogs & cats in a medical and care capacity.

Miscellaneous

  • Valid Driver’s License: Required
  • Sincere interest in Animal Friends Alliance’s mission & vision

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of animal breed, behavior, handling and care.
  • Basic technical procedures used in giving subcutaneous injections and medicating animals.
  • Knowledge of shelter software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cat and dog breeds, behavior, handling and care.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, including Gmail and Google Drive.
