Oncology Nurse Assistant Manager - Infusion Services - Internal Hire Only

Assists to direct a team of professionals who plan and organize all aspects of clinical patient care services in the Medical Oncology Department.  Leads the team to provide a Five Star Customer Experience for every patient seen in the Medical Oncology Department.  Oversees the work standards and performance of nursing staff. Reports to the RN Infusion Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Professional

• Maintains knowledge base for all nursing responsibilities as listed in Medical Oncology RN job description.


• Provides leadership role model for excellent patient care, work ethic, integrity and attitude.


• Maintains patient and staff confidentiality.


• Obtains and maintains personal oncology nursing certification (OCN).

Training

• Ongoing training of Chemo Nurses and other staff as necessary in all aspects of their job including drug and access device protocols, documentation, billing, etc.


• Orient and trains new staff.


• Oversees chemo nursing duties.


• Participates in regular nursing meetings for skills assessment, training, and communication.


• Find and suggest appropriate training conferences.


• Keeps current on lectures or seminars available locally for continuing education.


• Participates in management meetings with administrator and other department managers when Nurse Manager is unavailable.

General Duties

• Ensures all medical equipment is adequately calibrated and maintained.

Drugs

• Knows Nucleus including ordering, loading, reports, etc.


• Conducts ongoing investigation of new drugs and new protocols for existing drugs.


• Trains staff on treatment protocols for new drugs using NCCN guidelines.


• Implements department nursing Standard Operating Procedures as necessary.


• Trains staff on above in a timely manner.


• Develops and communicates protocols for chemo meds.


• Is aware of patients on protocol or drug assistance programs and informs staff of necessary actions on their part.

Ordering

• Orders drugs from Oncology Supply and other appropriate vendors as necessary.

Billing and Coding

• Oversees duties and scheduling for other subordinate staff.

Administration

• Attends other meetings as invited.


• Holds annual evaluations and recommends pay increases for subordinates.


• Participates in hiring interviews for new subordinate staff per clinic guidelines.


• Suggests periodic staff appreciation ideas.


• Works closely with Medical Oncology Management Team to ensure quality patient care for all patients.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Current RN in Medical Oncology Department. This is an internal posting.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Proficiency in use of standard office computer programs and equipment


• Current RN license (will need UT licensure). 


• Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years of Oncology Experience. 


• Maintains Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) Heavily preferred this is already in place
