Sunshine Residential Homes is seeking compassionate and skilled One on One Direct Care Specialists to provide direct trauma-informed care and behavioral support to children and youth in foster care. This role is essential in ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of children who have experienced significant trauma. Trauma Support Specialists will work closely with children displaying high-risk behaviors, provide behavioral coaching, and implement individualized strategies to support emotional regulation, safety, and skill-building.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one trauma-informed support to children experiencing behavioral or emotional crises, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to address challenging behaviors in a supportive manner.
• Observe, monitor, and document behavioral patterns, triggers, and progress, reporting to supervisors and case managers as required.
• Engage children in therapeutic and skill-building activities to develop coping mechanisms and improve emotional regulation.
• Assist in developing and implementing individualized behavior support plans in collaboration with clinical teams and case managers.
• Supervise children during high-risk transition periods (e.g., school drop-off/pick-up, medical appointments, outings, bedtime).
• Maintain close proximity and active engagement with assigned children, following congregate care supervision guidelines.
• Ensure that children are connected to appropriate behavioral health services and assist with scheduling and transportation for therapy and medical appointments.
• Support youth in navigating life skills development, including conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy.
• Monitor and facilitate safe communication with biological family members or other external contacts when applicable.
• Collaborate with house managers, caseworkers, and behavioral health professionals to ensure a coordinated care approach.
• Maintain required documentation, logs, and progress reports in compliance with agency and licensing standards.
Full Time
Mon- Fri 2PM-10PM (40 hours)
or
Part Time
Sat & Sun 8AM-10PM (28 hours)

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in child welfare, behavioral health coaching, trauma-informed care, or a related field. Experience working with foster care youth is strongly preferred.
• Certifications: CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification preferred (training provided if not already certified).
• Skills & Abilities:
• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
• Understanding of trauma-informed care principles
• Ability to provide consistent structure and support to youth
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
• Driving Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to transport children as needed.
• Work Conditions: This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, based on children’s needs
