Job Description - OPEN INTERVIEWS EVENT - Summer Work Coach (Seasonal) April 30th, 2pm-6pm.


MRC is hosting an on-site Open Interviews Event on Thursday, April 30th from 2pm – 6pm for Summer Work Coach candidates. Come join us for open interviews at MRC Industries: 2538 S 26th Street, Kalamazoo, Mi 49048.

The Summer Coaches will work from June 2nd – July 30th, 2026. The program runs 9am-1pm, 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday). Must be available for Orientation Onboarding dates as well: May 26th and/or 28th.

Job Title: Summer Work Coach (Part Time, Seasonal)


Department: Community Employment

Pay Rate:


$22.50 all staff

Job Summary:


Provides supervision, coaching, transportation, and support to students in the Student Work Experience Program. Promotes community inclusion, independence, and leadership to assigned team members. Provides supervision and training and follows procedures for ensuring safety in the community. Provides transportation to team members served during hours of operation as needed.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Engage all team members served in meaningful and productive activities at all times; plan daily activities as needed.

  • Provide training and support for team members served to help increase skill development at work sites

  • Provide community-based programming, ensuring team members served access and develop relationships with their community.

  • Provide onsite support that promotes community inclusion, independence and productivity.

  • Maintain quality control standards established by the customer.

  • Manage assigned work effectively for work completion and report/alert supervisor to any problems.

  • Provide coverage as requested.

  • Assume responsibility for the health and safety of individuals served, maintaining a clean and safe environment and following procedures to ensure safety within MRC facilities and the community.

  • Provide transportation to team members served during operational hours as required, adhering to all traffic laws and rules of the road.

  • Follow specific team members' served objectives, behavior plans, and/or interventions.

  • Daily document team members' served progress towards identified goals.

  • Follow established procedures for filling out daily notes as needed.

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and staff in the provision of services.

  • Complete incident and accident reports in a timely fashion and in accordance with agency policy.

  • Assure the rights of team members served are protected in accordance with Michigan Mental Health code and agency policy.



Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assess team member strengths and barriers and communicate these to the supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.



Required Skills/Abilities:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable team members with disabilities to perform the essential functions.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience or exposure coordinating activities in a group setting preferred.

  • Education and/or experience working with individuals (team members) with disabilities and/or mental illness preferred.

  • Must have problem solving skills and judgment sufficient to recognize and initiate appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency situations independently.

  • Must have written communication skills sufficient to write on team member activities in note form.

  • Must have sufficient reading skills to read consumer schedules and goals.

  • Must have human relation skills sufficient to interact effectively with a wide range of people.

  • Lived experiences with behavioral health are desired

  • Must be able to work unsupervised.

  • Must have a valid Michigan driver's license, excellent driving record, and availability of licensed, insured vehicle for use on the job required. Ability to obtain a basic chauffeur's license if required.

  • A criminal records check, recipient rights screen and drug screen are required for this position. Must be able to obtain federal security clearance



Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to squat, reach, lift, push, pull, bend, stoop and kneel and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Physical ability to provide assistance to team members served with lifting and transferring, personal care, and physical intervention when necessary.

  • This position requires exerting 40 pounds force occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently.



Work Conditions:



  • Must be able to tolerate hot temperatures in the summer outside.
