Open Rank Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities Division of Humanities

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking dynamic, student-centered applicants for a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment as an Open-Rank Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities within the College of Arts & Sciences beginning in January 2027.

Faculty members at UPIKE work closely with students in a collaborative learning environment that values mentorship, innovation, and meaningful engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

The College of Arts & Sciences seeks an energetic educator who is passionate about teaching and committed to serving our students. The faculty’s primary responsibility is to provide high-quality vocal instruction for all levels of learning in the UPIKE Music program.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the University's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.


• Teach undergraduate coursework in music education and musicianship.


• Coordinate the choral/vocal track of the new Bachelor of Arts or Science in Integrated Music Education P-12.


• Drive vocal program recruitment by building active partnerships with regional P-12 choral directors.


• Teach applied studio voice lessons and provide academic advising for performing arts candidates.


• Manage the annual choral performance calendar, program budgets, and vocal scholarships.


• Collaborate within the music program and engage in institutional service and governance. 

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in Music or a closely related field; a terminal degree is preferred.


• Demonstrated excellence in choral conducting, rehearsal pedagogy, and vocal ensemble direction.


• Demonstrated competency as a studio voice instructor capable of teaching healthy vocal technique. 


• Functional keyboard/piano accompaniment skills adequate for choral rehearsal, warm-ups, and vocal coaching.


• Must maintain a valid driver's license for travel associated with recruitment, tours, and clinic adjudications.


• Minimum level of English: C1 (Common European Language Framework).
