Description

JOB TITLE: Operations Chief 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular 

WORK STATUS: Full Time 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt 

OCCUPATIONAL GROUP: Professional 

REPORTS TO: Program Manager 

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None 

Position Purpose: 

Experienced aviation operations professional. Prepares plans and schedules training directives, programs and orders; maintaining orders of flight time in both master and individual flight files; maintaining files of extended flight, navigational information, navigational publications, radio and landing facility charts, flight information manuals, maps, other pertinent guides and notices, and compiling data for and preparing aviation operations and aviation safety reports. 

Essential Functions of the Position:

Duties of the Operations Chief will involve direct interface with foreign students, active duty Navy instructors and other users and/or coordinators of classroom facilities, training devices and aircraft schedules. 

  • Types reports, correspondence, and other matters as directed.
  • Prepares, promulgates and coordinates classroom, training devices and flight schedules 
  • Prepares master sheets for reproduction. 
  • Maintains files of aviation operations publications, records, and correspondence per current directives. 
  • Maintains and files classified material. 
  • Maintains flight logs and records of an aviation operations activity. 
  • Transmits flight plans and arrival reports to flight and air traffic control centers. 
  • Maintains maps, aeronautical charts, and aeronautical published files.
  • Utilizes publications pertaining to aviation operations. 
  • Prepares records, reports, and schedules of aviation operations such as daily flight records, aircraft operational reports, daily flight, and training schedules. 
  • Accurately interprets naval aviation and local directives 
  • Collects and distributes NOTAM and Wx current/forecast accurately 
  • Initiates and/or compiles serious incident reporting formats as/when required 
  • Train other teammates in flight schedule writing and distribution. 
  • Prepare multi-week plan, lead weekly Maintenance-Operations-Training Schedule (MOTS) meeting, and promulgate the multi-week MOTS schedule to key personnel.

Requirements

The following are the requisite education and/or experience required to qualify for the position as an Operations Chief.

Experience may substitute for education and experience on a two- for-one yearly basis. 

  • Minimum of 5 years as aviation operations specialist at squadron level or above.
  • Navy aviation operation specialist background preferred; other services considered.
  • Previously held Navy Flight Operations Chief Position strongly preferred.
  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Comfortable and effective communicator and presenter.
  • Experience with SHARP highly preferred

Experience and Education:

  • Previous experience or formal school training as Operations Chief considered but not required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be able to satisfactory complete a National Agency Check Local Records and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI), eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
  • Shall be able to obtain a DOD CAC card privileges to ensure access to flight line workspaces and critical information systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to satisfactory complete a National Agency Check Local Records and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI), eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
  • Shall be able to obtain a DOD CAC card privileges to ensure access to flight line workspaces and critical information systems 
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required
  • In office work on weekends and holidays not anticipated. Candidate must be available nights and weekends to manage flight schedule changes.
  • Domestic or International travel not anticipated for this position but could occur in the future
