South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families in Pittsburgh’s South Hills community by meeting basic needs and fostering opportunities for self-sufficiency. For over 50 years, SHIM has mobilized resources and developed sustainable programs to create a thriving community where everyone can succeed.
SHIM is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Operations Coordinator to support the day-to-day logistics of its basic needs programs. This hourly role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth operations for SHIM’s food pantries, donation programs, and facilities, while health and safety guidelines as per procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, hands-on, and committed to making a tangible impact in the community. Flexibility and adaptability are essential to this role as there are opportunities to pivot and assist the mission in a variety of ways. The ability to travel to multiple SHIM locations and organizations that we partner with is essential. The ideal candidate will have reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
Drive, load, and unload box truck for regular pickups at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank with or without a reasonable accommodation
Assist with setup, distribution, and breakdown on food pantry days
Manage logistics of home food delivery program
Ensure pantry environments remain clean, orderly, and safe
Oversee the upkeep of SHIM vehicles, including the box truck and cargo van on a regular basis
Transport clothing and other donations to designated locations on a regular basis
Maintain pantry equipment (e.g., appliances, carts, pallet jacks) and arrange repairs as needed
Support waste management, composting, and recycling efforts, including transporting items to Michael Brothers related to food pantry as needed
Assist with the organizational and operational success of our Basic Needs programs by performing other duties as assigned
Additional duties may include receive and storing incoming goods, and packing and dispatching outgoing goods by loading/unloading delivery trucks; assist in maintaining inventory controls and stock levels; and assisting in yearly inventory audits.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Reliable Transportation; Valid driver’s license; Clean driving record
Basic to Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft products
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational skills and commitment to teamwork
The ability to give and receive instructions, share information, and willingness to collaborate
Prior experience in operations
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of the job the employee is required to sit, walk, stand, use hands, fingers and feet, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Ability to drive cargo van and box truck
Ability to operate manual pallet jack
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily operations
Ability to stand for long periods of time

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Clearance or Pennsylvania ACT153 Waiver
