Job Description

Core areas of activity will be cost center management (supporting budget tracking and planning), resource management (including staff planning for program support), collaboration on Scientific Research Agreements (management and planning), project management support for cross-functional programs, and organizing RU leadership team meetings. In addition, the role will assist with portfolio-related matters, including activities related to prioritization of programs and activities and therapeutic/disease area strategy development. Provide oversight of team involved in management of lab supplies and purchase orders, CapEX, asset management, space planning, emergency equipment notification, and EH&S reporting. Lastly, the role will engage in cross-functional alignment with colleagues in R&D Business Operations and R&S Strategy and Portfolio Leadership as well as Operations Leads in other RED departments.
Principal Accountabilities:
Budget and financial management
• Partner with RU Heads, RU Leadership Team members and Finance to define, monitor and adjust RU budgets throughout the annual cycle
• Management of annual operating plan and long-range planning exercise, including budget and resource allocations, tracking of timelines to ensure completion of program milestones
• Drive prioritization, temporal alignment and execution of departmental Sponsored Research Agreements and contracts; track SRA spend and pre-approve invoice payments
• Propose dynamic responses to changing situations that affect budget tracking
• Communicate clearly and independently with all internal stakeholders on RU strategy, priorities, challenges and adjustments
Departmental management
• Coordinate process of goals cascade from RU Heads to individual team members
• Provide status updates, facilitate goal reviews and implementation of goal modifications
• Coordinate RU Leadership Team meetings including: Agenda management, communication of Action Items, and follow-up with various stakeholders to ensure completion of Action Items in a timely manner
• Work with functional area management for budgeting, lab space planning, capacity planning; coordinate lab changes with appropriate Biogen Departments and outside vendors
• Represent the RU Heads in cross-functional meetings

Qualifications

5+ years’ experience within the biopharma industry, preferably within the function to be managed. Prior experience of research science and/or clinical development would be an advantage. Demonstrated excellence in budget management and planning. Ability to

The NMMD/AD&D Operations Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating function-specific operating activities for the NMMD and AD&D research units (RUs) within the Research and Early Development (RED) unit. This role will be the primary point of contact for the NMMD and AD&D RU Heads and will be responsible for managing and implementing all processes, policies, and procedures critical to executing daily activities of the RUs.
