About the Department

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine has 44 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and several off-site locations. We have more than 50,000 outpatient visits, 4,500 surgeries per year. Teaching, research and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare.
Job Summary

The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems for a broad range of business operations and academic activities. May develop and implement office procedures and policies and ensures compliance. May prepare and monitor the budget for a unit.

This role will assist in improving our operational efficiencies for the department. The Operations Manager will manage the daily operations of the department and provide oversight and expertise on projects such as website development, communication, social media presence for the department, staff and faculty onboarding and orientation, meeting and event planning, and clinical program growth.
Responsibilities
Manages the daily operations of Orthopaedics Department, often serving as an office manager, primarily in the areas of financial, events and support services management.

Represents the department on business affairs.

Assists in developing and executing organization's business plan.

Develops and implements office procedures and policies.

Ensures compliance of office staff with relevant office, University and other policies and guidelines.

Develops or assists with the development of the budget.

Monitors and reconciles accounts.

Oversight management of the day-to-day financial processes, payment of invoices, the purchase of goods and services, and the processing of reimbursements.

May select vendors and negotiate contracts.

Researches, compiles and analyzes data to create reports, proposals and other documents including but not limited to financial and monthly reports.

May develop financial report for grants and provide input into non-technical portions of grant and contract proposals.

Oversees and maintains the physical office space, ordering equipment repairs and upgrades. Manages communications, including maintaining and updating Web content.

Coordinates logistics of major events, and may assist in planning events.

Manages special projects or functions related to the business of the organizational unit.

Hires, trains, appraises, promotes, disciplines, and terminates office staff, which may include both exempt and non-exempt employees. Directs and monitors the work of office staff to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Performs some routine and complex assignments for the unit usually in the areas of finance, event planning or support services. Initiate the hiring process of students and staff for a unit, which includes the processing of payroll.

Responsible for training office staff on office procedures and compliance protocols. Coordinates special projects.

Assists in the monitoring of the various financial and budgetary activities, including vendors contracts.

Preparing and monitoring the budget for a unit.

Researches and analyzes data to create reports, and may create other reports for grants and contracts.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field.

Experience:
2-5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience.
