Job Title: Operations Support Specialist Location: Northport, AL Department: Operations Reports To: Crew and Resource Manager and Senior Port CaptainGeneral Summary: The Operations Support Specialist plays a key role in supporting the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of Parker Towing Company’s Operations Department. This position assists with daily crew logistics, dispatch support, safety and compliance tasks, and broader operational needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with the dispatch team, assist the Safety Manager, and provide cross-functional support across the department. This position reports directly to the Crew and Resource Manager and the Senior Port Captain and will be involved in frequent, hands-on tasks. The goal is to develop a well-rounded professional with long-term growth opportunities in marine operations.Key Responsibilities:
Assist in meeting daily vessel staffing requirements and ensuring accurate payroll submissions.
Support the onboarding process by preparing orientation materials and documentation for new hires.
Help coordinate crew changes, fuel provisioning, and grocery resupply with vendors and dispatch to minimize downtime.
Work closely with the dispatch team and provide administrative and logistical support to dispatchers.
Assist the Safety Manager with safety-related tasks, compliance tracking, and support during audits and inspections.
Support general compliance initiatives and help ensure adherence to company safety policies.
Provide administrative support for training sessions and compliance briefings.
Serve as a flexible resource to assist other parts of the operations department as operational needs arise.
Contribute to the development and implementation of safety and efficiency improvement initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Crew and Resource Manager, Senior Port Captain, or other members of management.
Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience & Skills:
Strong understanding of logistics and planning.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience in the towing and barge industry or logistics platforms is a plus.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operational needs.
Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Work Environment:
Office-based with occasional field visits to vessels or crew change locations.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including being on-call during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
