Description

 The Railroad Load Adjust Operator is responsible for overseeing the loading, unloading, and balancing of freight on railroad cars. This position involves ensuring that loads are secured, balanced, and comply with safety and operational standards. The operator may also be required to drive trucks or other vehicles as part of their duties, and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred for this role but not required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load Adjustment: Inspect freight cars to ensure loads are properly balanced, positioned, and secured according to railroad and safety regulations.
• Load Securing: Use hand tools, mechanical equipment, and other resources to shift, adjust, and secure loads to prevent shifting, damage, or accidents during transit.
• CDL Vehicle Operation (if applicable): Operate trucks or other heavy machinery as needed to transport materials or assist with loading/unloading at various locations, ensuring all vehicles are safely operated and comply with road safety regulations.
• Safety Inspections: Perform regular checks on both the cargo and equipment to ensure that everything is in proper working condition and meets safety standards.
• Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork, including load reports, safety inspection forms, and other documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other railroad personnel, supervisors, and freight handlers to ensure smooth and efficient loading operations.
• Operational Support: Assist in the setup, breakdown, and movement of materials, equipment, and freight as needed.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, protocols, and company guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of load adjustment equipment and vehicles used in the loading process.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; further education or training in logistics or related field is a plus.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred. Ability to operate trucks, forklifts, or other machinery used in the loading process.
• Prior experience in railroad operations, freight handling, or logistics is an advantage.
• Knowledge of railroad safety regulations and proper load securing techniques.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy objects.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions.
• Basic mechanical skills to perform minor maintenance on equipment and machinery.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions and irregular hours as needed.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs or more).
• Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noises, and potentially hazardous materials.
• Ability to operate machinery or vehicles, often in challenging or tight spaces.

Work Environment:

• Primarily outdoor work, near active railroad tracks and freight yards.
• Exposure to dust, noise, and potential hazards associated with railroad operations.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) required, including safety shoes, gloves, hard hats, and high-visibility clothing.
