We are Looking for:

The Ophthalmic Assistant will play a key role in supporting the ophthalmologist by conducting preliminary patient assessments, assisting with eye exams, and performing various clinical and administrative tasks. This role requires strong patient interaction skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for properly stocking, preparing, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms during clinic.
  • Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information.
  • Prepare patients for physician’s exam. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physician’s preference.
  • Assists with in-office procedures.
  • Prepare and ensure all consent forms are complete and accurate prior to in-office procedures. Prepares and
  • cleans room after procedure.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician.
  • Assists with preparing letters to patients and referring physicians.
  • Assists with diagnostic testing.
  • Follow-up on diagnostic tests when directed by physician.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.
  • Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.
  • Must meet and adhere to CLS Health policies and procedures, uphold to the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs.
  • Travel to other CLS Health Locations

Qualifications:

  • Visual Assessment
  • Visual Field Testing (CVF, Amsler Grid, HVF)
  • Pupil Assessment
  • Tonometry (iCare, Goldmann Applanation, and Tonopen)
  • Keratometry (manual and automated)
  • Ocular Motility Testing
  • Lensometry (Manual and automated)
  • Refraction (utilizing phoroptor, duochrome, fogging, Prince rule, trial frame)
  • Retinoscopy and Refinement (at the COT and COMT level)
  • Basic Contact Lens knowledge
  • Ophthalmic Coding
  • Scribing
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and reach. Use care and proper judgment when lifting or carrying items ensuring to utilize proper posture and body mechanics. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Classified as having occupational exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Exposure to communicable disease.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working with ophthalmologist.
