In this position, you will be joining the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County as part of the Clinical and Community Health Services Division team, collaborating with the Division of Disease Intervention Services (DIS) to enhance public health initiatives. We are committed to preventing, diagnosing, and treating Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) while ensuring accessibility to vital services for our community.
This is a key and highly visible role within our clinical services, where you'll be the face of our welcoming environment and commitment to customer service. Your general responsibilities will include providing routine health care services including intake, administration of lab tests and blood draws, collecting specimens for testing, and care-related administrative procedures.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
The person in this position will perform the duties of a Health Services Representative in the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV/AIDS programs in the Clinical and Community Health Services Division within a large County Health Department.
Post-hiring training requirements (In addition to the Department of Health Mandatory Trainings)
+

Successfully compete the CDC approved online training course entitled, Passport to Partner Services.
+

Successfully completes the CDC approved intensive training course entitled, Passport to Partner Services.
+

Successfully completes Interactive Core Curriculum on Tuberculosis: What the Clinician Should Know, CDC training modules.
+

Successfully completes HIV 500/501 classes.
+

Successfully completes the packing and shipping training for laboratory specimens.
+

Successfully completes the eligibility and clinical scheduling training.
Provides direct STD/HIV services according to the Program Operations Guidelines for STD Prevention, along with the current Department of Health Technical Guidance.
+

Educates client and/or family members regarding health and prevention of STD.
+

Provides educational presentations in the community.
+

Maintains accurate and complete client/medical records. The employer, Department of Health, County Health Department is the records owner of the client/medical records as defined by Section 455.667 F.S. f.
+

Refers clients to ensure continuity of care.
+

Maintains client confidentiality in a manner consistent with Chapter 384.29, F. S., as well as current Sarasota County and Florida State Department of Health policies and procedures.
+

Draws blood on STD clients as needed.
+

Records and certifies employee activity records weekly.
+

Completes and submits accurate timesheet biweekly at the end of the pay period.
+

Provides Customer Service in a professional and courteous manner.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to operate a computer

Ability to interview participants in order to obtain a medical or social history

Ability to pack and ship laboratory specimens

Knowledge of community resources and skill in referring participants to appropriate resources

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Qualifications:
Minimum -

High school diploma or GED
+

Valid Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain one
Preferred -

Experience working with clientele from diverse cultural backgrounds
+

Experience working with minimal direct supervision
+

Experience using electronic medical records
+

Experience or training in phlebotomy or medical assisting
+

Bilingualism in English and Spanish, Haitian Creole, Russian, or Ukranian
