Our client has an immediate need for an experienced Optical Engineer, to work as a Deployment Expert on-site at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, formerly Vandenberg AFB.

As the Optical Engineer you will.

• You will be responsible for on-site physical installation, implementation, and configuration of optical transport products from our client.
• Function as the local subject matter expert and related standards development and interpretation of customer requirements specifications to provide guidelines on customer’s modernization effort.
• Utilize your strong understanding of SONET, DWDM, ROADM (and other (n)OADM configurations) architecture and provisioning and implementation, coupled with an understanding of Carrier Ethernet architecture and provisioning and implementation.
• Follow implementation plans based on the results of testing and provide expert engineering support in the deployment of the proposed enhancements and modifications to include Layer-0, Layer-1, and Layer-2 processes and configurations.
• Demonstrate the ability to read/follow network diagrams, cabling guides, and signal flow diagrams, including, manual manipulation and installation of varying products from SFP/XFPs (Pluggable) and occasionally to shelves (Up to 75lbs).
• Manipulate fiber optic patches (Clean, Run, Replace patches).
• Provide weekly updates to varying internal and external contract stakeholders.

Your background will include.

• An active DOD Secret clearance (Must have).
• At least 5 years of experience as an Optical Engineer
• Working knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, or relative vendor equipment.
• Expert knowledge working with Layer-0, and Layer-1 protocols.
• Working experience with fiber optics including, ISP (patches and connectors), and OSP (fiber characterization and OTDR).
• BS degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a similar technical field of study.
• A diverse telecommunications background, including hands-on installation.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to client locations.
• Current or Prior experience knowledge with Ciena Product Family a plus, alternative tools would be Nokia/ALU, Infinera, and Cisco (Legacy 15454).
