JOB TITLE: Optician

Division/Department: Human Services – Medical Services

Location: Min No Aya Win Human Services Center - On Site

Reports To: Optical Manager

Probationary Period: 90 days – Full time, 120 days – Part time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Classification: Child-Related CA

Driver’s License: Level 0- No Driver's License Required.

Wage: $22.34 to $25.13 hourly

Responsibilities

Pre-test patients: interview patients and record health history and other appropriate findings..

Assists with selling, illustrating and demonstrating use of product, sizing, and dispensing spectacles and with follow up services including adjustments, repairs and troubleshoots eyeglass problems.

Documents and places orders for contact lenses and glasses.

Maintains all frame boards and their inventory practices and keeps them current according to stipulation in eyeglasses contract.

Performs complicated frame measurements necessary to assure cosmetically, physically and optically optimum spectacle performance, e.g. multi-focal lenses, special specification lenses.

Verifies spectacle prescriptions through use of lensometer, lens gauges and other instrumentation.

Performs minor frame repairs.

Take fundus photos and perform OCTs.

Performs additional procedures at the request of the optometrist, e.g. visual fields, vision training, etc.

Provides instruction on insertion, removal and care of contact lenses.

Orders all optical supplies and tools.

Appropriate/Professional work attire is required.

Must attend all mandatory department trainings.

Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.

Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.

Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.

Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.

Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.

Maintains a clean and organized work area.

Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

No Driver's License Required.

Two years’ optician experience including providing direct service or Optician certification is required.

Understanding of medical terminology is required.

Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, data bases and/or data entry, Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook is required.

Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.

Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.

Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.

Attention to detail and accuracy is required.

Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.

Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.

Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.

Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal physical requirements.
