Optometric Technician

· Assist the optometrist with routine eye exams and procedures.

· Conduct diagnostic tests including visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and refraction.

· Record and update patient medical histories and test results accurately in the EMR system.

· Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment such as OCT machines and visual field analyzers.

· Provide patient education regarding contact lenses and post-exam care.

· Support contact lens training and fittings.

· Assist with insurance-related tasks, including basic coding and billing for optometric services.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Proficiency with EMR systems and optical diagnostic tools.

· Basic understanding of ocular anatomy and common eye conditions.

· Ability to perform visual acuity testing, refraction pre-tests, and lensometry.

· Experience with contact lens fitting and patient instruction.

· Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

· Ability to maintain professionalism and patient confidentiality.

· Familiarity with basic insurance billing and coding practices for vision care.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One to two years of experience in an Optometry or Ophthalmology setting is a plus. Certification as an Optometric Technician is preferred. 

Language Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to apply sound judgment when following written, verbal, or diagram instructions and handle variable tasks in routine clinical situations.

Physical Demands:
This role requires regular standing, walking, and use of hands for equipment handling and computer input. Occasional lifting of up to fifteen (15) pounds may be required.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a clinical optometry office environment with moderate noise levels and regular interaction with patients and clinical staff.
