SUMMARY:  The circulating nurse is dedicated to each patient for the duration of the surgery.  The circulator is responsible for managing all nursing care within the operating room, observing the surgical team from a broad perspective, and assisting the team to create a safe environment for the patient’s surgery.  Other duties include completing and verifying surgical documents/consents, verifying patient identification, ensuring correct site and surgical procedure, proper patient positioning, maintaining strict infection control throughout the procedure, and performing surgical counts to ensure no surgical items are retained in the patient.  Additional duties may be required as needed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

RN for one year and six months surgical experience in a hospital setting preferred.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Texas RN license or RN Compact licensure


• Current CPR certification required.


• ALCS and PALS Certification required or must be obtained within first year of employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of applicable regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
