Job Summary:
The OR Scrub Tech is responsible for assisting the surgical team in providing safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care during surgical procedures. This role includes preparing and maintaining sterile fields, passing instruments and supplies to surgeons, and ensuring adherence to infection control standards. The Scrub Tech collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to create an optimal operative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and sterile.
- Assist in positioning and prepping patients for surgery in accordance with established protocols.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout procedures to prevent infection.
- Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure smooth workflow during operations.
- Count sponges, needles, instruments, and other supplies with circulating nurse according to hospital policy.
- Handle specimens properly, ensuring correct labeling and transport.
- Clean and restock operating rooms following procedures.
- Participate in emergency situations by responding quickly and effectively.
- Adhere to hospital policies, surgical protocols, and patient safety guidelines at all times.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; BLS required.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of scrub tech experience in an operating room preferred (new grads
