Job Description - Oral Surgery Assistant

As an Oral Surgery Assistant, your primary responsibility is to support the oral surgeon in delivering exceptional patient care. You will utilize precise techniques in passing surgical instruments to ensure the highest levels of safety for both patients and staff. Your role encompasses a variety of tasks including monitoring vital signs, taking radiographs, and maintaining accurate medical records, all in adherence to the clinic’s protocols.

Essential Duties:

  • Treatment Room Preparation: Ensure the treatment room is ready for patients by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Vital Signs Monitoring: Accurately measure and record patient vital signs, including blood pressure and respiration rate.
  • Surgical Assistance: Assist the surgeon during general anesthesia and intravenous sedation procedures. Hand surgical instruments to the surgeon and prepare surgical dressings.
  • Monitoring: Keep track of intravenous fluids and patient vital signs during and post-surgery.
  • Radiographs and Prescriptions: Take dental radiographs, prepare prescriptions, and manage the inventory of supplies in the operatory.
  • Medical Record Keeping: Enter patient treatment information into the computer system and prepare all consent forms related to surgery and anesthesia use.
  • Patient Care Instructions: Provide patients with detailed post-operative care instructions.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Manage and schedule patients’ next visit appointments.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
  • Compliance and Confidentiality: Adhere to office education, protocols, and maintain patient confidentiality while conducting yourself in a professional manner.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with OSHA infection control policies.
  • Assist the oral surgeon in managing medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification and managing the emergency kit, oxygen, and other supplies.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of chair-side experience, preferably in oral surgery, dental, and/or periodontics.

Special Requirements, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • DAI Certification.
  • X-Ray Certification.
  • CPR Certification.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
