The Orchestra Teacher at FCA is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive orchestra program that inspires students to grow musically, academically, and spiritually. This role includes teaching students of varying skill levels in string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, conducting rehearsals, and directing school performances while integrating Christian values into music education. The teacher will also recruit and retain students for the program, maintain instruments and resources, and foster a positive, faith-centered learning environment. In addition to musical instruction, the Orchestra Teacher will model Christian values, encourage students to use their talents to honor God, and support their spiritual development. They will maintain open communication with families and colleagues, actively participate in school events, and engage in professional development to continuously enhance the program.

  • Design and implement a standards-based orchestra curriculum for various grade levels.
  • Teach fundamental to advanced techniques in string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
  • Incorporate Christian principles and values into music lessons and ensemble rehearsals.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Direct and conduct school orchestra ensembles, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups.
  • Plan and coordinate school concerts, recitals, and community performances.
  • Prepare students for competitions, festivals, and other music events.
  • Recruit and retain students for the orchestra program.
  • Maintain and inventory instruments, sheet music, and other program resources.
  • Collaborate with the Fine Arts team and other staff to integrate music into school events and school events.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other music teachers and fine arts staff to plan interdisciplinary projects.
  • Participate in school functions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in Orchestra required
  • FLDOE-certified or certifiable
  • FLOCS certifiable 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  •  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, Head of Schools, district staff, and the community. 
  •  Strong interpersonal, oral communication, problem-solving and organizational skills are required to facilitate teaching and student development effectively. 
  •  Ability to support teams in the development of common assessments to inform instruction.
