Job Description - Orchestra Teacher (26-27 School Year)

Providence Hall is a charter school in Herriman, UT, dedicated to teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly, with junior high students participating in pathway-focused programs that meet state standards while supporting their interests and growth, and high school students engaging in college- and career-readiness opportunities through AP Scholars, concurrent enrollment, and CTE programs.

If you are ready to have a small school experience with big school resources, we invite you to check out this exciting opportunity to see if it sounds like a perfect fit for you.

Providence Hall is seeking a dynamic and motivated Orchestra Director to build and grow a comprehensive orchestra program within our small school setting. This unique position serves both our Junior High and High School campuses on an alternating A and B day schedule, teaching at the junior high one day and the high school the next.

This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about program development, recruitment, and fostering a strong orchestral culture across grade levels.

Schedule:

  •  A Day: Junior High Campus

  •  B Day: High School Campus

  •  Alternating block schedule throughout the school year

  • Serves students in grades 6 through 12

  • Shared classroom and rehearsal spaces requiring flexibility and collaboration

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, teach, and direct orchestra courses at both the junior high and high school levels

  • Build and grow a vertically aligned 7 through 12 orchestra program

  • Recruit students and actively promote orchestra participation schoolwide

  • Plan and direct concerts, performances, and adjudicated events

  • Collaborate with administration and counseling to support program growth

  • Maintain inventory, instruments, music library, and equipment

  • Foster a positive, disciplined, and engaging rehearsal environment

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff

Program Development Expectations
This position requires an educator who is willing and able to build a program within a small school environment. Initial enrollment may be modest, with significant opportunity for growth.

The teacher may be assigned additional elective courses in early years as the orchestra program develops. As enrollment grows and the orchestra program becomes self-sustaining, elective assignments may be replaced with additional orchestra sections, chamber orchestra or advanced ensembles, music related electives, or other elective courses aligned with the teacher’s endorsements and interests.

Success in recruitment and retention will directly influence expanded music offerings.

Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for an educator who is enthusiastic about building something meaningful from the ground up, understands the developmental differences between junior high and high school students, is proactive in recruitment and community engagement, is adaptable in a shared space teaching environment, and sees long term potential and growth in a developing program.

Providence Hall offers a collaborative and supportive environment where educators have the opportunity to make a lasting impact. This position is ideal for someone excited about building a thriving orchestra program and shaping the musical culture of our schools.

Qualifications:

  • Current valid Utah teaching license in Music Education

  • Strong knowledge of Utah state standards, curriculum, and best instructional pedagogy practices

  • Proven classroom experience or completion of student teaching at the secondary level

  • Ability to create a unit plan that is aligned with standards, engaging, and includes differentiated lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students

  • High level organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multitask easily

  • Positive interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations

  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Professional communication skills including but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident, articulate and professional speaking abilities; empathetic listening; and persuasive speaking

  • Experience with Skyward is a plus

  • Knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools

  • Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting

  • Must pass a comprehensive check of education verification and professional references as a condition of employment

  • Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency

Work Environment

  • Small school setting with close collaboration across grade levels

  • Shared rehearsal and classroom spaces requiring flexibility, organization, and strong communication

  • Opportunity to shape the culture and identity of a growing music program
