SUMMARY
The OSP Facilities Technician is responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role works independently in the field using specialized locating equipment, interpreting maps and records, and communicating with crews and property owners to prevent service interruptions and maintain public safety.
POSITION SCHEDULE AND ONSITE REQUIREMENT
This is a direct-hire, full-time position based out of our Murfreesboro, TN office. The role requires daily travel throughout our Middle Tennessee footprint. A company vehicle is provided for travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
Utilize company-provided locating equipment and technology to accurately identify underground utilities.
Read and interpret maps, system prints, and mapping platforms (e.g., Google Earth).
Plan and navigate efficient routes to locate sites in both rural and urban areas.
Perform work across varied terrain and outdoor conditions.
Use a laptop to receive work orders, document findings, and manage email communication.
Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity standards.
Communicate effectively with managers, field crews, and homeowners regarding locate activities and issues.
Remove and replace manhole lids and interpret job order tickets.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Participate in an on-call rotation, including nights and weekends, to support emergency locates.
WHAT YOU BRING
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Tennessee driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Proficient in PC applications, including company systems, email, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to read and interpret fiber records, staking sheets, specification sheets, circuit diagrams, and engineering drawings.
Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to safely operate ladders (up to 75 lbs), hand tools, electric drills, test equipment, and a company vehicle.
Working knowledge of basic mathematics and consumer electronics.
