OSP Technician Department: Outside Plant Reports To: OSP Project Manager
POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a skilled OSP Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic infrastructure in the field. This role requires hands-on work with aerial and underground plant, as well as operating equipment. The ideal candidate is experienced in telecom construction, committed to safety, and comfortable working in various outdoor environments. This field-based position includes installing conduit, pulling cable, performing fiber splicing, and supporting aerial or underground crews.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with conduit installation, cable pulling, and handhole placement
Support fiber optic cable splicing and testing operations
Read construction plans and blueprints to follow design specifications
Assist in pole transfers, ground rod installation, and aerial hardware setup
Load and transport tools, supplies, and light equipment to and from work sites
Follow all company and job-site safety procedures
Maintain clean, organized job sites and support site restoration efforts
Communicate effectively with crew leads and supervisors

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1–2 years of experience in telecom or utility construction preferred
Basic knowledge of fiber optic cable handling and installation techniques
Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a team environment
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (CDL not required)
Willingness to learn and grow in a field-based technical role
Experience using hand tools and basic construction equipment
JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role requires extensive travel with the ability to travel to various locations to perform job duties. Travel schedules may be predictable, or variable depending on the needs of the project and may take short trips, longer trips, or extended stays depending on the needs of the project.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs on a regular basis
Ability to walk, bend, kneel, crouch, or stand for extended periods
Willingness to work at heights, on ladders, in bucket trucks, or on poles
Comfortable working in confined spaces such as handholes or manholes
Ability to operate and safely handle power tools and heavy equipment
Tolerance for working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
Capable of extended travel to remote job sites as needed
Ability to wear and operate in required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and fall protection gear
This position requires the ability to crouch and stand in undefined positions in narrow spaces to operate machinery
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base pay is paid at an hourly rate. The hourly range for this position is $27-$32 depending on experience.
