Job Description - OTS/AWOTS Rotating Site Leader


Qwaltec is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as an OTS/AWOTS Rotating Site Leader in support of our customer at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility on the Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) providing on-orbit engineering for multi-satellite constellations.

Please note that this is a union position and your salary and benefits are pre-determined by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) in force. Rotating shift work required in this position.

Responsibilities will include:

• General operational and technical knowledge of RF and Telemetry systems including, but not limited to, receivers, combiners, demodulators, recorders, transmitters, data distribution, antenna controllers, ranging equipment, command systems, S-Band/VHF antennas, including RF modulation techniques. Shall possess the ability to operate, install, maintain, repair, overhaul, troubleshoot and modify the equipment listed above.

• Qualified operator of several local data acquisition antenna systems including the 11 meter, LEO-T, and VHF antennas.

• Qualified remote operator of several external data acquisition systems including the McMurdo, White Sands, Kennedy Uplink Station, Ponce DeLeon, and Bermuda tracking station.

• Issue site status messages and discrepancy reports.

• Perform system troubleshooting and repair.

• Maintains up-to-date logs and preventative maintenance schedules.

• Maintains preventative maintenance schedules.

• Records all corrective and planned maintenance actions in Maximo database.

• Assists, and provides OJT training as necessary.

• Completes certification catalog reviews and approvals.

• Reviews and implements mission ISI’s in accordance Near Earth Network requirements.

• Reviews and implements freeze periods and NEN pre-launch checkouts.

• Performs Station Readiness Test (SRTs) and Project Readiness Tests (ORTs) as required by each mission.

• Communicates via voice loop prior to and during mission support as necessary.

• Performs continuous safety assessments of work environments.

• Performs general and preventive maintenance/housekeeping functions on various systems

• Participates in new mission configuration setup and testing leading up to launch.

• Works from engineering drawings and specifications and utilize a thorough knowledge of the operating characteristics of circuits, equipment, and systems.

• Ensures proper alignment, calibration, and operation of equipment; maintain up-to-date documentation, logs and records, and submit oral and written reports of work activities.

• If needed, creates test plans, develops test cases, and executes testing to ensure functional requirements are met.

• Plans and coordinates assignments for the maintenance and operation of the various instrumentation systems used in support of projects, experiments, and programs.

• Establishes and follow processes to identify, capture, confirm, document, and track operational and maintenance problems through to final approval of corrective action and implementation.

• Assists, trains, and directs technicians as necessary.

• Uses test equipment related to validation, troubleshooting, and configuration of various equipment and system assets within the assigned area is vital. Safety and quality awareness and compliance are essential. Candidate must be capable of the successful completion drug testing and must possess or receive, and continue to maintain a secret clearance as required.
