Description

Provides individualized medical nutrition therapy to ambulatory and hospitalized patients as part of a multidisciplinary team in a tertiary care center. Serves as a consultant on nutrition care for other members of the health care teamApplies evidenced-based medical nutrition therapy standards of care to incorporate the nutrition care process: nutrition assessment/re-assessmentnutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and nutrition monitoring/evaluationCompletes thorough assessment, including nutrition focused physical examsreview of medical record for anthropometricsmedical history, labs, food allergies/intolerances, and drug-nutrient interactionsIdentifies diagnostic criteria, including malnutrition, and may perform testing such as resting energy expenditure (REE), bioelectrical impedance or ultrasound or place Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) Interventions include developing advanced/specialized nutrition plans and writing orders/recommendations for therapeutic dietsoral nutrition supplementationvitamin and mineral repletion, and nutrition support (enteral and parenteral) and may place nasogastric or nasojejunal  feeding tubes for high acuity/medically complex patients.Provides nutrition education/ counseling utilizing principles of motivational interviewingEmpowers family and caregivers to support medically complex patients with therapeutic diet prescribedCoordinates ongoing nutrition care for patients, facilities, caregiversand durable medical equipment companiesCompletes documentation in electronic health record per institution standardsContributes to financial and clinical outcomes through implementation of servicesAwareness of accreditation and regulatory guidelines that relate to nutrition.


 


Works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the enterprise to develop MNT practice guidelines and/or protocols, curriculum and nutrition education materials. Precepts dietetic interns; mentors and trains new staff. Provides direction and collaborate with dietetic technicians and administrative support staff.


 


Works collaboratively with providers and other allied health care staff to develop and deliver programs and services that promote both therapeutic and wellness initiatives. Researches best practice to ensure effective interventions and measures outcomes of interventionsDemonstrates effective public speaking/presentation skills.



Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field. Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) internship or approved training program. Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), or eligible to obtain registration upon hire, must obtain RDN credential within three months of hire. Licensed as a Dietitian or eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota, with licensure requirements completed within three months of hire. Previous clinical dietetics experience, advanced degree in nutrition or related field, and/or nutrition-related specialty certifications are preferred.
