Outpatient Intake Coordinator / CASAC Addictions Counselor

Position Summary

The Intake Coordinator / Addictions Counselor provides outreach to referral sources, conducts screenings and assessments for prospective outpatient clients, and delivers substance use disorder counseling services in accordance with OASAS regulations and Agency policies. This role is responsible for maintaining high-quality clinical documentation, fostering community partnerships, and ensuring clients receive timely access to appropriate treatment and support services.

Key Responsibilities

Intake & Outreach

• Coordinate intake appointments in collaboration with administrative staff.


• Conduct screenings, assessments, and evaluations of prospective clients.


• Engage and motivate individuals seeking treatment and recovery services.


• Promote agency services throughout the community and cultivate referral relationships with providers and community partners.


• Facilitate referrals to appropriate treatment and support services and ensure follow-through when needed.

Counseling & Clinical Services

• Provide substance use disorder counseling services in accordance with agency policies and OASAS standards.


• Facilitate group counseling sessions as scheduled.


• Maintain a counseling caseload as assigned or needed.


• Assist clients in identifying treatment goals and developing strategies to support recovery.


• Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and respectful treatment environment.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation.


• Ensure case records meet agency standards and regulatory requirements.


• Review clinic documentation and client records for quality and compliance.


• Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, and professional standards.

Professional Collaboration

• Attend and actively participate in assigned meetings, committees, and trainings.


• Maintain professional working relationships with community agencies, referral sources, peers, and other healthcare providers.


• Pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities.


• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Qualifications

Required

• Current CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) certification in good standing.


• Credential must remain active and current throughout employment.


• Minimum of three (3) years of counseling experience, preferably in an OASAS-licensed outpatient substance use disorder treatment program.


• Strong knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment planning, assessment practices, and recovery-oriented care.


• Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.


• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community partners.

Preferred

• Experience conducting intake assessments and level-of-care determinations.


• Knowledge of OASAS regulations, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.


• Experience facilitating group counseling and managing a clinical caseload.
