Outpatient Materials SpecialistJob Description
The Outpatient Materials Specialist is responsible for coordinating the work of one or more multiple surgical specialties by providing leadership, guidance, professional development, and assistance to staff, performing at a competent level of practice and according to the standards of practice for the area. Functions to maintain an environment of caring and concern for patients and staff members according to principles of patient focused care and customer service. Collaborates with physicians of specialty areas to ensure efficient use of OR supplies and attainment of desired patient outcomes. Performs sterile processing duties to ensure competency of clinical skills.
Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week. 6:30 AM 3 PM daily.
Required: Associate's degree; BLS or CPR within 90 days of hire
Pay: Based on experience, starting at $17.79
Responsibilities
Aseptic Technique - Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques., Clean up -Assists with clean up and case turnover., Communicate- Uses basic communication skills to obtain and provide pertinent patient care information to other team members, establish professional rapport with other team members and surgeons, maintain patient/family confidentiality, achieve desired outcomes, and serve as the patient advocate., Equipment Operates and maintains equipment according to recommended manufacturer’s instructions and policies and procedures., Evaluation Participates in the evaluation of the patient care delivery system., Handles, identifies, and delivers all specimens, cultures, implantable devices, and homografts., Knowledge Demonstrates knowledge of patient identification., Performs hospital and surgery computer system interaction and collaborates with Surgery Information System Specialist to update and maintain system preference cards., Perform sterile processing duties maintain clinical skills, Pref. Card Utilizes surgeon preference card and case cart pick list to competently prepare for operative procedures., Principles Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization., Represents the perioperative specialty at medical staff, other nursing unit, and ancillary department meetings., Reviews the upcoming surgery schedule for proactive equipment and supply usage planning. Collaborates with Materials Management, OR/CS Materials Specialist, and OR Manager to acquire needed equipment and supplies, ensure safe and efficient utilization of equipment and monitor the cost efficiency of cases. Coordinates clinical trials of new supplies and equipment for assigned specialties, including capital budget preparation.Requirements
