Job Description - Outreach Specialist

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:


CCAC’s vision is healthy, resilient communities where all people can breathe clean air and thrive.  Our mission is to advance health equity and environmental justice by empowering Central California communities through services, research, advocacy, and data-driven solutions to reduce the burden of asthma.



POSITION SUMMARY:


The Bilingual Outreach Specialist will report to the Associate Director of Outreach and Policy (ADOP) to conduct outreach on CCAC’s Climate Equity and Environmental Justice projects, as well as other CCAC programs when appropriate. The Outreach Specialist will conduct community outreach and engagement to increase awareness of select CCAC programs and services with an initial focus on our Electric Vehicle (EV) Equity Program. The purpose of the EV Equity Program is to facilitate access to electric vehicle technology for disadvantaged communities in California with an emphasis in, but not limited to, the San Joaquin Valley. The Outreach Specialist will conduct community outreach and engagement activities, and conduct other duties as described below.  Due to the nature of community events, the Outreach Specialist should expect to work some evenings and weekends.


 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Raise awareness of CCAC’s programs through community engagement:

  • Schedule and attend events in priority communities (primarily in the 8 San Joaquin Valley counties with periodic travel to other counties within California)

  • Distribute flyers, leaflets, and other printed and digital materials

  • Assist interested residents by capturing their contact information and relaying information to program leads

  • Conduct in-person and digital presentations/workshops in English and Spanish

  • Setting up and staffing CCAC outreach booth

  • Support low-income residents in accessing resources, primarily for electric vehicles or home electrification.

    • Conduct preliminary eligibility screening of residents via one-on-one appointments

    • Assist residents in submitting climate incentive applications, including collection of required documents and uploading to incentive program application portals

    • Document and maintain records of all resident interactions in a CRM platform

    • Answer telephone and emails, responding promptly and appropriately to all resident inquiries daily



  • Proactively lead and maintain subject matter expertise to develop outreach materials.

    • Maintain knowledge of the newest electric vehicle technology, air quality, energy, asthma, and climate justice issues

    • Maintain knowledge of various state and regional incentives in the clean energy sector, not limited to electric vehicles

    • Coordinate with CCAC Marketing and Communications, relevant CCAC staff and project partners to promote outreach activities, including EV test drive events, community steering committees, asthma remediation services, community air monitoring network, environmental/health research opportunities, and other activities.

    • Translate documents and materials into Spanish, if necessary.



  • Assist in preparing reports, as assigned

  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • AA, AS degree (BA, BS preferred) – relevant majors may include: Political Science, Public Health, Environmental Studies/Policy/Science, Sociology, Communications, etc.

  • Spanish language fluency (verbal and written)

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed

  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with community members and project partners

  • Experience using computer software programs, particularly Google Apps, Teams and all Microsoft 365 platforms, Monday & CRM

  • Experience interacting with a diverse population

  • Experience with all aspects of cultural competency

  • Capable of working independently, cooperatively and responsibly

  • Experience and knowledge about clean energy, air quality, asthma, climate justice and electric vehicles preferred

  • Experience working in environmental justice preferred


 


TRAVEL: To events (e.g. outreach events and Ride and Drives) across the service territory (primarily the 8 San Joaquin Valley counties), with partners and stakeholders, or other purposes as needed. Periodic travel outside the San Joaquin Valley and other parts of California.  Some overnight travel may be required.



DRIVING AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License and personal vehicle with applicable CA mandated auto insurance to travel to outreach events.


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • May be required to obtain COVID 19 and Annual Flu vaccinations.

  • Ability to travel to various community locations, events, and meetings

  • Capability to walk extended distances at community events, fairs, or door-to-door activities

  • Ability to drive and transport materials to different outreach sites

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and display equipment up to 50 pounds

  • Capability to set up and break down display tables, banners, and promotional materials

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods during events, presentations, or community gatherings

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions for outdoor events

  • Ability to use mobile devices, tablets, or laptops for data collection and reporting

  • Capability to take photos or videos for documentation purposes

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Capability to work in various environments (offices, community centers, outdoors, etc.)


 


 


AUTHORITY AND SUPERVISORY CAPACITY: This position will not supervise any regular staff.  May work with the Associate Director of Outreach and Policy (ADOP), EV Program Manager, and/or Deputy Executive Director to oversee interns as needed.


 


ACCESS TO SENSITIVE INFORMATION: Must maintain confidentiality of personal client and staff information exposed to when working in files and preparing reports.
