JOB SUMMARY: The Painter is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appearance of port facilities and related structures. This includes surface preparation, application of paint, finishes, and coatings, and ensuring all work adheres to safety and quality standards. The Painter ensures a clean, professional, and welcoming environment for passengers and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares and cleans surfaces, including metal, concrete, wood, and other materials. Removes old paint, dirt, and debris through power washing or scraping. Sands surfaces and applies primer for optimal paint adhesion. Repairs cracks, holes, and rust on structures and surfaces before painting. Utilizes brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to apply paint and coatings. Maintains tools and equipment in clean, working condition. Mixes paints and materials to achieve desired color and consistency.
Applies high-quality paint, coatings, and finishes to terminals, docks, fences, and bridges. Utilizes specialized techniques for various materials (metal, wood, concrete) to ensure weather-resistant finishes, especially in marine environments. Applies non-slip coatings to walkways or safety zones as needed. Inspects painted surfaces for defects, uneven finishes, or areas that need touch-ups. Refinishes and restores painted surfaces, ensuring uniformity and a professional finish.
Ensures all painted surfaces retain their protective qualities in harsh weather, particularly in saltwater environment near ports.
Adheres to safety regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials like solvents and paint thinners. Uses safety gear such as gloves, masks, and goggles to avoid health hazards. Follows environmental guidelines to protect the surrounding area, especially water and marine life. Reports significant maintenance issues or structural damages and recommends solutions.
Collaborates with maintenance crew and port management to prioritize and schedule painting tasks.
Coordinates with cruise management to minimize operational disruptions during painting projects. Updates management on project progress, challenges, and materials needed.
Assists in general maintenance tasks at the port, including minor repairs and touch-ups. Painters may occasionally be assigned other duties around the port. Ensures the cruise port consistently maintains an inviting and clean appearance for passengers. Performs other role-related duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in painting and maintenance required; ideally in an industrial or maritime setting.
Celebration Key may necessitate additional certifications pertaining to safety, working at heights, or handling hazardous materials.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and safety protocols.
Knowledge and understanding of carpentry-related environmental regulations, concepts, processes, trends and terminology.
Good troubleshooting skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good people, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals.
Ability to manage deadlines and tasks simultaneously.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and other role-related technologies and applications.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to speak English fluently, clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests Proficient in reading and writing English to understand and interpret procedures, give and receive instructions, and effectively communicate with guests, managers, and co-workers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be physically fit to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) and/or operate heavy machinery. Capability to work at heights on docks, terminals and other structures, utilizing ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment.
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing to access equipment.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors, enduring prolonged periods of standing and walking in varying environmental conditions.
Work may be performed in an environment with potential safety/health hazard.
Responsibilities are carried out in a busy cruise port environment, potentially involving outdoor work near the water.
Frequent maintenance of paintwork is required to prevent corrosion and wear due to saltwater exposure.
All island employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, with full range of motion in arms and legs, and full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities to give and receive instructions during emergencies.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Flexibility to work rotating, after-hours, or emergency response shifts on weekends, holidays, and/or evenings
