Paraeducator - Gerber School

Cunningham Children’s Home is seeking a compassionate and team-oriented Paraeducator to support students within the Gerber School program. This position works closely with classroom teachers and school leadership to help implement academic instruction, behavioral supports, and therapeutic classroom programming for students with behavioral and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support classroom instruction and student learning under the direction of the classroom teacher
• Assist with implementing lesson plans, classroom routines, and behavioral programming
• Utilize schoolwide behavior management expectations across all settings
• Record and maintain student data and documentation
• Help maintain a structured, engaging, data-driven, and therapeutic classroom environment
• Provide classroom coverage and instruction in the absence of the teacher
• Collaborate with teachers, residential staff, and other school professionals
• Monitor students at all times and intervene appropriately when necessary
• Complete required paperwork, documentation, and training requirements
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold agency policies and procedures

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or a related field required
• ISBE Paraeducator Approval required
• Substitute Teacher License (Type 39) preferred
• Experience working with youth with behavioral and emotional challenges preferred
• Strong communication, teamwork, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
