Job Summary
Paraprofessional is a Child Care Staff, providing direct support and supervision to youth. Paraprofessional is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth for our adolescent residents. Associate will monitor and supervise activities and behavior of  adolescents in the resident care of Abiding Place, through regular contacts with resident's schools,  individual/family therapists and home visits. Monitor homework completion, cooking, cleaning,  oversight of recreational and social activities, daily progress notes/incident reports, and observation  during regular household routines, weekend activities and visitation. 

The Paraprofessional Associate will report to the Associate Professional/House Manager

Responsibilities and Duties

You will support, teach, and monitor youth in a variety of daily living skills, fostering a positive and therapeutic atmosphere.

  • Client Support & Skill Building:
    • Guide youth in daily routines, including personal hygiene and preparing for daytime activities.
    • Teach essential independent living skills, such as budgeting, completing chores, grocery shopping, meal planning, preparation, and cleanup.
    • Help youth build healthy relationships with their peers through house meetings and informal discussions.
    • Assist and teach youth in using public transportation and provide transportation for appointments when needed.
  • Safety & Supervision:
    • Supervise and document the location of youth 24/7, including itinerary checks, ensuring their continuous safety and accountability.
    • Maintain the security of all office/storage areas and the therapeutic home.
    • Handle emergency situations by following Abiding Path, LLC's policies and using crisis intervention techniques when necessary.
    • Conduct and document monthly fire drills following established procedures.
  • Documentation & Professionalism:
    • Provide professional information on resident performance, meticulously documenting behavior, completing shift checklists, and maintaining awareness of all residents' whereabouts.
    • Uphold strict confidentiality for all client documentation and information. Discussing confidential details with non-employees or other residents is strictly prohibited.
    • Perform daily record keeping (e.g., data collection, daily logs) and effectively exchange information with the next shift or support staff.
    • Consistently follow individual treatment plans for each youth.
    • Receive, review, process, file, and submit various documents and reports accurately.
  • Day-to-Day Activities

    Your day at Abiding Path, LLC will involve hands-on interaction and guidance. You'll be actively involved in the lives of our youth, from encouraging them to make their beds to teaching them how to budget their allowance. You'll lead group discussions, accompany them on errands, and ensure the home remains a safe and welcoming space. Each shift requires diligence in documenting progress and communicating effectively with your team. You'll be a consistent, positive role model, adapting to the dynamic needs of the residents and responding calmly and effectively to any challenges that arise.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years experience working with children or youth in a residential or developmental setting OR a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Age: Must be at least 20 years old.
  • Driving: Valid North Carolina driver's license, excellent driving record, and current auto insurance. A Driving Report is required.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass a criminal background clearance.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain quickly upon hire).
