THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $62,868.00 - $72,298.00

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Preventive Services (DPS) is a beacon of support to families by connecting them to community-based resources. DPS works to provide (a) resources that maintain the safety and well-being of families, and (b) guidance and resources to our contracted providers to strengthen their ability to assess and address the service needs of families.

DPS is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Prevention Parent Advisor with firsthand experience being enrolled in a preventive services program to join our team. The Prevention Parent Advisor will serve as a member of the leadership team within DPS and will play a pivotal role in building community awareness of preventive services, particularly among families who face challenges with economic scarcity, trauma, mental health, domestic violence, and substance use disorder. This role is suited for someone who is passionate about using their experience to bolster community awareness of preventive services and advise the DPS team.

The responsibilities of the Prevention Parent Advisor will include, but will not be limited to:

- Community Engagement: Work to build relationships and establish credibility among families in the community by sharing their own experiences with preventive services. This may involve speaking at community events, hosting informational sessions, and participating in outreach activities to raise awareness about available resources and support.
- Peer Support: Provide peer support to families by helping them learn about preventive services and answering questions. This may involve holding office hours, peer group sessions or individual conversations.
- Program Development: Provide valuable insights and feedback to inform the development and improvement of ACS Prevention initiatives. This may include participating in planning meetings, providing input on program design and implementation, and identifying areas for enhancement based on community needs and feedback.
- Education: Play a key role in educating ACS staff, provider agency staff, community referral sources, and other stakeholders about the realities of preventive services and the child welfare system from the perspective of families. This may involve participating in panel discussions or trainings and providing input on curriculum development to ensure that trainings are relevant and impactful.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with ACS staff, provider organizations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to foster a collaborative approach to prevention initiatives and further agency efforts toward family voice and choice. This may involve participating in meetings, working groups, the Parent Advocacy Council (PAC), and collaborative projects aimed at improving outcomes for families.
- Project Support: Work closely with the Deputy Commissioner of Preventive Services on assigned projects and initiatives. Collaborate on data collection about Parent Advisor activities.
