The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with Seamen’s Society for Children and Families to find qualified candidates for a Parent Advocate position in Staten Island, NY. Position Overview






The Parent Advocate provides in-home support and case management services to families, helping strengthen parent-child relationships and connect families with community resources and essential services. This role advocates on behalf of families to ensure they receive appropriate benefits, supports, and services while assisting parents in navigating systems such as child welfare, healthcare, housing, education, and public assistance. Candidates must have personal lived experience with the child welfare system.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.









Key Responsibilities






  • Conduct home visits to assess family needs and child safety in compliance with ACS requirements
  • Provide supportive case management services focused on family goals, parenting skills, and family stability
  • Escort families to appointments, including medical providers, public assistance offices, Social Security, Medicaid, housing services, and other agencies
  • Advocate for families and connect them to community-based resources and services
  • Participate in intakes, service planning meetings, and family support activities
  • Obtain and maintain required collateral documentation from healthcare, educational, and treatment providers
  • Monitor family medical, educational, and social service needs
  • Assist parents with improving parenting and home management skills
  • Participate in school visits, IEP meetings, and educational support activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation in PROMIS, CONNECTIONS, Excel tracking systems, and case records
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and case reviews
  • Conduct outreach and maintain relationships with community service providers
  • Work collaboratively with families, support networks, healthcare providers, and community partners








Requirements






  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Successful completion of an ACS-funded prevention services program or similar program required
  • Basic computer literacy preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct interviews and gather information from families
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultures
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work flexible hours based on program needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team








Pay Range






USD $23.20 - USD $23.20 /Hr.
