Job Description - Parent Educator

Position Summary


 


This position is responsible for providing parent education, coaching and support to parents throughout Multnomah County through home visitation, classes, and in office one to one service while utilizing the evidence-based Parents as Teachers model and curriculum


 


Provide parent education through regular home visits and group meetings implementing the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum for children 0-5 years old strives to embrace and strengthen families with children by promoting growth through education, information, referrals, and opportunities to share experiences.


 


This is a full-time, non-exempt position that is expected to work 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work for meetings and events. This position reports to the Community Health and Family Services Manager.


 


Salary


$22.00-$25.00/hour, depending on experience.

Duties & Responsibilities


●       Manage caseload of 20-30 children, providing services and case management.


●       Actively recruit families to participate in the program.


●       Develop and facilitate monthly Group Connection activities designed to assist families build social connections, reduce isolation, and engage parents in healthy interactions with their children.


●       Facilitate increases in parents' knowledge about child development and related skills to implement developmentally appropriate family activities.


●       Facilitate family engagement with developmental screenings for children that will assess hearing, vision and language skills.


●       Facilitate screenings for intellectual, socio-emotional and motor development skills, as well as annual health visits.


●       Help parents and children transition to other services as needed, such as preschool or kindergarten.


●       Maintain accurate and timely case files and provide data for county-wide database.


●       Work with PAT team to plan and provide monthly parent group connections gatherings.


●       Meet with the supervisor a minimum of twice monthly for reflective supervision sessions.


 


Skills & Abilities


●       Strong listening skills with the ability to explain unfamiliar ideas clearly and respectfully.


●      Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing for a variety of audiences.


●      Ability to work well with a diverse group of co-workers, clients & partners and build trust and a sense of teamwork with families.


●       Working knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft and Google workspace products.


●       Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with the Early Learning Leadership Team.


●      Demonstrated ability to balance multiple demands and deadlines effectively.


 


 


Qualifications


 


●       Some college coursework required; AA in Early Childhood Education preferred.


●       1-2 years of Early Childhood experience required.


●       Fluency in English and one of the following languages required: Somali or Swahili.
