Job Summary
The Parish Secretary fulfills the mission of the Catholic church by providing general organizational support within the framework of the church's philosophy, organization, and policies. The Parish Secretary serves as the assistant to the Parish Administrative Assistant and the Pastor by supporting the administrative needs of the Pastor and assigned office duties. The Parish Secretary has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with church policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the Parish Administrative Assistant and the Pastor.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Duties
· Update Parish websites with latest events and information
· Update social media pages with latest events and information
· Update weekly bulletin and submit to publisher timely (due Tuesdays 3pm)
· Coordinate with Diocese to publish St. John’s events in Catholic Spirits and Diocese website
· Submit monthly Mass attendance report to Diocese
· Answer phones
· Respond to emails from parishioners
· Send out general notifications and prayer requests
· Record mass intentions
· Create weekly mass schedules and intentions
· Post weekly mass schedules at the designated locations
· Draft immigration letters for review and approval
· Greet and address questions from Spanish speaking parishioners
· Assist Faith Formation Director to greet and address questions from Spanish speaking parents
· Assist with Teen Events and Youth Nights
· Coordinate monthly Adoration schedule
· Other administrative tasks as requested
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Trainings:
· High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
Experience:
· Two (2) years of related wage earning experience.
Language:
· English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
· Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
Catholic Requirement:
· Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
· Valid Texas driver’s license.
· Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Employee Certification
All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
