Your New Role
As a Permanent, full-time, Park Ranger 1, you will be part of a team dedicated to protecting and enhancing Oregon’s natural and cultural treasures. In this role, you’ll maintain and operate state park lands within the Harris Beach Management Unit, ensuring they remain safe, beautiful, and accessible for all visitors. Your work will include repairing and caring for park structures, facilities, equipment, and systems using skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and landscape maintenance. You’ll also apply specialized expertise in areas such as resource interpretation, cultural and natural resource restoration, utility infrastructure operation, and park rule enforcement. This is a hands-on position where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a lasting impact on Oregon’s parks and the people who enjoy them.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping). OR
An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
NOTE: A higher level degree may substitute for the Associate's degree. There is no substitute for the 6 months experience.
Special Requirements:
To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Exceptional Customer Service and Public Interaction: Skilled in delivering high-quality customer service and managing public interactions in a fast-paced environment, including de-escalation and maintaining professionalism.
Situational Judgment, Rule Application, and Prioritization: Skilled in evaluating conditions, applying rules and guidelines consistently, prioritizing work, and communicating plan changes to maintain safety and operational continuity.
Team Collaboration and Workplace Professionalism: Works effectively as part of a team, maintains a positive and professional work environment, and addresses workplace conflict constructively through respectful communication.
Campground Operations, Fee Collection, and Computer-Based Systems: Experience supporting campground or visitor services operations, including fee collection, cash handling controls, customer registration, and accurate data entry in computer-based systems.
Park Resource and Facility Operations (Custodial and Grounds): Experience supporting custodial and grounds operations, including restroom servicing, site cleaning, basic grounds care, and maintaining facilities to a safe and welcoming standard.
Hands-On Building Maintenance Skills (Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical): Demonstrated hands-on experience in basic building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and basic electrical work, with sound judgment to escalate issues that exceed role scope.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance (Troubleshooting and Upkeep): Experience operating, inspecting, and maintaining equipment and tools, including routine care, basic troubleshooting, and documentation or repair follow-through to keep equipment safe and service-ready.
