Job Overview: The Parking Lot Painter is responsible for overseeing and executing the preparation, layout, and painting of parking lots, roads, and other designated areas. This role requires expert-level knowledge in the use of various painting equipment, materials, and techniques, as well as the ability to supervise and guide a team of painters. The Parking Lot Painter will ensure the proper application of line markings, symbols, and other markings to meet safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate painting projects for parking lots, including preparation, layout, and execution.
- Supervise and provide guidance to junior painters or crew members, ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and complies with all local codes and regulations.
- Inspect parking lots and other designated areas to determine the scope of work required.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, priming, and repairing any damage before painting.
- Use specialized equipment such as airless sprayers, striping machines, and stencils to apply paint.
- Mix paints and other materials to the required consistency and color.
- Apply markings including parking spaces, traffic lanes, fire lanes, and handicapped spots.
- Monitor weather conditions to determine the best times for painting to ensure proper curing.
- Maintain and clean equipment and tools regularly.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used.
- Provide recommendations for improvements in parking lot layout, flow, and marking visibility.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in parking lot painting or related field.
- Knowledge of proper surface preparation, paint application techniques, and safety standards.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Experience with line striping machines and other specialized painting equipment.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training in painting, construction, or related fields is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in parking lot painting or a similar role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior position.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, with potential for overtime.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work depending on the project.
- Work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
