Job Description - Parks Crew Leader - Aquatics

Summary

Responsible for coordinating and assigning daily maintenance, operation, and repair activities for City-owned aquatic facilities, including pools, splash pads, and related amenities and equipment. Also responsible for maintaining communication with supervisors and crew members to ensure the timely completion, safety, and quality of assigned work.

Pay Range:  $22.16 - $24.95 (Depending on knowledge and experience)


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain City-owned aquatic facilities, including pools, splash pads, decks, mechanical rooms, and aquatic equipment and amenities.

  • Communicate with supervisors to determine daily priorities, maintenance needs, and aquatic facility projects.

  • Supervise and assist crew members in their daily work duties; coordinate and assign daily work tasks as needed or in the absence of the supervisor.

  • Verify that high-quality work is completed for every task and provide constructive feedback when changes or improvements are needed.

  • Operate and maintain aquatic facility equipment including pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, vacuums, heaters, and circulation systems.

  • Perform or assist with water chemistry testing, balancing, and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.

  • Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs related to aquatic facilities and equipment.

  • Operate heavy equipment, power tools, and hand tools to support aquatic facility maintenance and repair activities.

  • Provide input regarding hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions.

  • Complete written reports, inspections, logs, and documentation as required by management or regulatory agencies.

  • Assist in coordinating maintenance, repairs, and projects with other City departments and outside vendors.

  • May assist with maintenance of other Parks & Recreation facilities or projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 3 years of related experience

  • Up to 1 year in a leadership role

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience   

  • 3-5 years of experience in coordinating the efforts of maintenance crews

  • 1 year experience in a leadership role

  • State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License preferred, not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:            

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety methods and procedures used in aquatic facility and equipment operations.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices for maintaining and operating pool facilities and equipment, including methods and techniques of water sterilization and chemical balancing, troubleshooting chemical pumps, pool pumps, filters and vacuums.

  • Knowledge of applicable safety standards, health codes, and inspection requirements for aquatic facilities.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and techniques used in electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry related to aquatic facilities.

  • Basic computer skills. Skill operating power tools, hand tools, ladders, and light to heavy equipment. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with subordinates, customers, vendors, and management.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License required

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Work is primarily performed outdoors and in aquatic environments with frequent exposure to water, pool chemicals, noise, and mechanical equipment. May be exposed to extreme heat or cold, humidity, rain, and physical exertion including bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
