PATHOLOGISTS' ASSISTANT

Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Under direct or indirect supervision of a pathologist, performs accessioning, dissection, histologic sampling, and gross examination of a  full range of anatomical specimens, following established protocols.
• Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations within the established protocol and procedural parameters.
• Clearly and accurately describes specimens and their measurements using canned dictation whenever appropriate.
• Verifies specimen identity to prevent medical errors.
• Uses correct specimen cassettes and starts tissue processor as needed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Pathologist

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree
• Graduate of a pathologist assistant program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)
• ASCP certification preferred
