Patient AR Specialist

You know how to stay steady when a customer is frustrated, explain a next step clearly, and follow through after the conversation ends. Those skills can make you excellent at patient accounts receivable—even if you have never worked in medical billing. Wayfinder RCM helps healthcare practices manage the work of getting paid. We’re hiring a Patient AR Specialist to help resolve patient balances with accuracy, respect, and persistence. We will train the right person in our systems and billing processes.

What You’ll Do

• Make outbound calls about outstanding patient balances, explain verified account information, and ask for payment respectfully.


• Help identify appropriate next steps when a patient has questions or cannot pay immediately.


• Review account lists, track client decisions, and follow up on unresolved balances.


• Compare account records and investigate payment or system discrepancies.


• Recognize when an account needs additional review before collection activity continues.


• Prepare eligible accounts for referral to a collections agency, following required approvals and procedures.


• Process authorized small-balance adjustments.


• Keep clear notes and communicate with teammates and clients.

What Will Help You Succeed

• You are comfortable initiating phone calls and discussing money. You can be kind and direct in the same conversation.


• You notice details, keep useful notes, and follow a process while recognizing when something needs a second look. You can learn new software, protect confidential information, and use feedback to improve.


• Experience in demanding retail, banking, hospitality, customer service, collections, or another role involving difficult conversations is especially welcome.


• Tell us what you have handled. The title on your resume matters less than the skills behind it.


• No medical billing experience, certification, or college degree is required.

Some people will be frustrated. Some accounts will need investigation. Much of the work involves focused computer time and repeated follow-up. You’ll need to ask for payment respectfully, stay organized, and know when to pause and seek guidance. Success includes accurate accounts, appropriate next steps, and respectful patient relationships.
