Job Description - Patient Care Associate / Pain Center
Position: Patient Care Associate Department: Pain Center Shift: 7:00 am-2:30 pm Days Vary Facility: Miami Valley Hospital Pain Clinic and Miami Valley Hospital South Pain Clinic General Summary/Responsibilities: The Pain Center Patient Care Associate will work in conjunction with the care team to ensure the optimal patient experience under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and delegated in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing. The patient care associate will identify abnormal findings based on established standards and guidelines and report those findings to the Registered Nurse. The Patient Care Associate will perform both basic clinical and administrative duties and assist other office members to ensure the clinic runs smoothly. * Check things like temperature, heartbeat, and breathing. * Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat. * Collect samples like blood or urine. * Clean and change bandages. * Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.The PCA works under the supervision of the nurse, who ensures that they are doing things safely and correctly. So, even though PCAs don't wear capes, they are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and get healthy again!QualificationsEducation: You'll need a high school diploma or GED.Training: They can also teach you CPR at your orientation, so you don't need to do it beforehand.Experience: No previous job experience is required, but you should have one of the following: * Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training. * Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom) * Currently in nursing school and finished one clinical rotation.Other Skills: * You can handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice. * You know how to use a computer a little. * You're good at organizing things. * You can talk and listen well to others. * Bonus points: You've worked in a hospital or clinical setting before. Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training. 1. Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting 2. Currently enrolled in nursing school and completion of at least one clinical rotation.Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements.
