Job Objective:

Assists with basic patient care skills, including vital signs, intake and outputs, and patient safety. Performs support functions for the department, including basic clerical functions, order entry, supply ordering and maintenance of patient care and desk area.

Education:
Required: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree if hired after March 1, 2025; Medical Assistant certification or Nursing Assistant certification may be accepted in lieu of education requirement

Licensure/Certification:
Required: American Heart Association BLS

Experience:
Preferred: Healthcare experience

Reports To: Supervisor, Manager, or Director
Supervises: N/A
Ages of Patients (as assigned): Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
Blood Borne Pathogens: High Potential

Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Accurately obtains vital signs (TPR, BP and pain level), height, weight, pulse oximeter; documents and communicates observations and changes to Registered Nurse (RN), if applicable.
3. Transcribes orders into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) (i.e., films, x-ray, labs and other studies); prepares and records information in patient Electronic Medical Record (EMR) charts timely and accurately, if applicable.
4. Appropriately positions and ambulates patients per care plan; assists patients in wheelchairs to vehicles, if applicable.
5. Accurately records intake and output.
6. Assists with set up and/or feedings of patients; assists patients in completion of personal hygiene needs upon admission or discharge, if applicable.
7. Provides safe patient environment at all times; stays with patient who may be in danger of falling or hurting themselves; correctly identifies patient per approved patient identification procedures; ensures call bell is within reach and patient safety is maintained on gurney.
8. Communicates with RN, manager and/or co-workers prior to breaks, lunches and end of shift to ensure continuity of patient care.
9. Maintains general tidiness of patient care area and unit or clinic; assists with room turnover; maintains and sanitizes gurneys, if applicable.
10. Maintains supply par levels in department.
11. Performs shave preps, if applicable.
12. Performs basic clerical duties; takes phone messages, if applicable.
13. Obtains provider or patient signatures on appropriate documents, if applicable.
14. Gathers reports, labs, studies, or other data pertinent to upcoming patient appointments; processes patient referrals to other provider offices, if applicable.
15. Performs basic order entry, data entry and retrieval, and patient charges.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
