Job Description - Patient Care Tech (PCT) / Heart and Vascular Unit
Position: Patient Care Tech \nDepartment: Heart and Vascular SE6 \nShift: 7:00 pm-7:30 am Full Time 36 hours a week, 72 hours per pay period \nFacility: Miami Valley Hospital \n \nThey collaborate with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They can:\n\n * Check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate.\n * Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating.\n * Collect samples like urine.\n * Report any changes in a patient\u0027s condition to a nurse.\n * Walks, ADLs, Weighing Patients; Vitals\n\n\n\nThe PCT works under the supervision of a nurse, who ensures they are performing tasks safely and correctly. Sometimes, the PCT may also be referred to as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (PCT/HUC). Like HUC, they assist with the paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly, which also helps patients receive the best care possible.\n\nSo, even though PCTs don\u0027t wear capes, they are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and recover their health. \n \n\n \n\n \n\nEducation: You\u0027ll need a high school diploma or GED.\n\nTraining: You\u0027ll need to get a BLS CPR certificate. If you don\u2019t already have it, they can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too (so you don\u0027t need to do it beforehand).\n\nExperience: Successful completion of one of the following:\n\n 1. Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.\n 2. Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) \u0026 direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting\n 3. Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.\n\n\n\n \n*Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements. *\n\nOther Skills:\n\n * You can handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice.\n * You know how to use a computer.\n * You\u0027re good at organizing things.\n * You can talk and listen well to others.\n * Bonus points: You\u0027ve worked in a hospital before.\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \n
