Position Summary

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for supporting physicians and nursing staff by assisting with direct patient care, maintaining a safe and welcoming clinical environment, and ensuring patients receive exceptional service throughout their visit. This role combines hands-on patient care with clinical and unit support responsibilities in a busy outpatient oncology practice.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, height, and weight.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and infusion appointments.
  • Assist with patient mobility and safely transport patients as needed.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, and phlebotomy within scope of practice.
  • Retrieve blood products from the Blood Bank in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Observe patients and promptly report changes in condition to the Registered Nurse.
  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare infusion chairs, equipment, and treatment areas between patient visits.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment.
  • Stock clinical supplies and assist with inventory management.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record and other clinical information systems accurately.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and the multidisciplinary oncology team to provide outstanding patient care.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

 

Experience

  • Previous experience providing direct patient care in an acute care, outpatient, oncology, infusion, medical office, or hospital setting preferred.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Medical Assistant, EMT, or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
  • Current BLS Certification required or obtained within the required timeframe.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with a compassionate, patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency using electronic medical records and computer-based clinical systems.
