Job Description - Patient Enrollment Specialist



Full-time


Description

The Patient Enrollment Specialist bridges patient care and clinical research by reviewing patient information, performing health screenings, and educating patients about clinical trial opportunities. This role ensures that patients are informed, clinically evaluated, and supported through the pre-screening and enrollment process.

This in-person position requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and compassionately. The ideal candidate is both patient-focused and passionate about advancing medical research.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Screening & Clinical Support

• Review patient charts and recruiter notes to ensure an informed, organized visit experience.

• Perform general health screenings, including:

o Phlebotomy (blood draws and specimen packaging)

o FibroScan

o ECG

o Vital signs, height, and weight

• Document results accurately and communicate findings to investigators and clinical teams.

• Conduct patient follow-up calls regarding screening outcomes and next steps.

• Occasionally represent the clinic at weekend community health fairs to promote clinical research opportunities.

Clinical Research Education & Pre-Screening

• Educate patients on clinical research participation, study requirements, and informed consent processes.

• Interpret and explain study protocols, including inclusion/exclusion criteria, in patient-friendly language.

• Assess preliminary eligibility and interest for available trials.

• Support patients throughout the decision-making and enrollment process.

Data & System Management

• Enter and maintain data in CRIO (CTMS) and other electronic systems with precision and timeliness.

• Maintain accurate pre-screening logs, metrics, and documentation of patient interactions.

• Coordinate with recruitment and clinical teams to optimize scheduling of screenings, physician visits, and pharmacy involvement.

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with investigators, study coordinators, and recruiters to ensure efficient and compliant enrollment.

• Participate in recruitment meetings to share feedback on workflow improvements and patient outreach.

• Act as a patient advocate by maintaining professionalism, empathy, and transparency in all communications.

Additional Responsibilities

This position may also take on other duties and projects as assigned, particularly those that support cross-functional collaboration, process improvement, and the overall success of the research site. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs and study requirements.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Medical Assistant with current Phlebotomy Certification (Louisiana) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

• Clinical proficiency in

    Phlebotomy

    ECG administration

    Specimen handling and packaging

    Patient education and vital sign assessment

• Experience in a clinical setting (ER, OR, or critical care experience preferred)

• Proficiency in EMR/CTMS systems and general computer literacy

• Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills

• Willingness to work occasional weekends for community outreach

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, nursing, or related field

• Prior experience in clinical research, patient recruitment, or enrollment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Highly organized with strong time management and multitasking skills

• Compassionate and professional approach with patients and colleagues

• Ability to learn and retain details about multiple studies simultaneously

• Comfortable in a fast-paced, accuracy-driven clinical research environment


Salary Description
