Job Description - Patient Financial Services

Rapid City Medical Center has a full-time Patient Financial Services position available in our Business Office. This position assists patients and staff with billing questions while upholding excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 



  • Communicate in a polite, prompt and helpful manner via phone & face-to-face opportunities.

  • Effectively decipher, review, and relay insurance processing outcomes.

  • Research, validate, and input demographics information & other aspects of the account.

  • Provide education while maintaining healthy financial relationships.

  • Review and audit patient accounts. 

  • Reconcile patient accounts.

  • Provide billing education to resolve patient billing disputes. 

  • Initiate and monitor payment plans.

  • Process payments via phone.

  • Promote open communication with clinical staff supporting financial policies and processes.

  • Must maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.


 


EDUCATION: 


High school degree or equivalent. Must be 18 years or older.



EXPERIENCE: 


Healthcare experience preferred.


 


KNOWLEDGE



  • No Surprise Billing Act

  • Medical terminology

  • Insurance billing/processing

  • Collections

  • HIPAA

  • Read and interpret an explanation of benefits (EOB)

  • Microsoft Office



SKILLS & ABILITIES



  • Practices active listening.

  • Professional and confident in communication while establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships.

  • Critical thinking, analyzing and interpreting information to decipher next steps, and obtain a resolution.

  • Management of multiple concurrent tasks.



ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: 



  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Frequent contact with employees.

  • Frequent interruptions.

  • Minimal exposure to communicable diseases.



PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: 



  • Job requires largely sedentary role requiring one’s ability to sit for extended period.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.

  • Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard.
